The Outsiders

by NBCT’s Saax Bradbury Players – Drama

Sponsored by N. Kimmey Symore III, DDS

The Outsiders opens with an orphaned 14 year old boy named Ponyboy Curtis, who is a member of the “greasers.” Their rivals are the upper-class socials, or “Socs”, who enjoy drinking, driving nice cars, and beating up greasers. Tensions mount between the two rival gangs, setting off a turbulent chain of events resulting in the death of three teens.

Based on the timeless classic written by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders is a profound look into the world of teens, looking past differences, and learning that appearances are only surface deep.  The book launched Ms. Hinton’s career in 1967 as one of America’s most beloved authors.  The novel was recreated for Hollywood and featured an all-star cast: Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillion, and Diane Lane.
