Set in the Deep South in the year 1948, just shy of the Civil Rights Movement, we meet Daisy Werthan, a wealthy Jewish widow with a sharp tongue, at the ripe age of 72. She has recently been informed by her son that, because of her poor driving, she must be driven by a chauffeur, a kindly black man named Hoke. Miss Daisy originally treats Hoke with contempt, and Hoke is offended by her obvious prejudice. However, over a span of 25 years, Hoke breaks down Miss Daisy's tough exterior, and the two become very close. As Hoke has his last visit with Miss Daisy, now 97 and confined to a nursing home, the pair realizes that they were a better match than anyone would have thought or dared to propose at the time.
